Teens - Dating Violence

What if I am in an
Unhealthy Relationship?

First of all, it is important to understand it is not your fault if your partner is being abusive. Here are some things you can do

Get help immediately; don't keep concerns to yourself, if you have a bad feeling about something trust your feelings.

Talk to someone you trust like a parent, relative, teacher, etc. Ask your friends what they see in your relationship.

You can call a youth advocate program like Hands of Hope and ask for some advice or help.

Have a plan. Thing about things like where can I go if things get out of hand, who can I call, how will I handle or escape a violent situation. (Safety Plan)

Inform others. Let them know when you are afraid or need help. Let others know when you are going out, where you are going and when you will be back.

Go out in a group. Keep friends close by.

Discuss with someone you trust how to end the relationship and who your support will be.
