How Can I Tell If a Child Is Being Neglected?

WHAT IS CHILD ABUSE?

Child sexual abuse is forcing or taking advantage of a child by an older person (adult or adolescent) for the sexual pleasure of the older person.

Child neglect is the failure to provide a child with the basic necessities of life (food, clothing, shelter, medical attention, education, etc.) needed for physical growth and development.

Child physical abuse occurs when a child's physical health or welfare is harmed or threatened with harm by the act of his/her parent(s) or caretaker(s).

Child emotional abuse occurs when a caregiver uses works or actions that will hurt the growth of a child's mind, body, or feelings.

It shouldn't hurt to be a child...

Children Living in Abusive Homes...
Whether or not children are abused physically by an adult in the home, they suffer emotional trauma and psychological scars from seeing the abuse in the home.

In homes where sexual or physical violence takes place; fear, instability, and confusion replace the love, comfort, and nurturing that children need. These children live with fear or harm from persons who are supposed to care for and protect them. Children may feel guilty for loving the abuser, or blame themselves for causing the abuse.
