EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR STUDENTS
Hands of Hope is continually educating the community about
the issues of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse
and general crime. It is our belief that a proactive approach
to the effects of this violence is in the best interest of
the entire community.
Education and awareness of the continuum of violence perpetrated
against women and children is essential to stopping these
violent crimes. When addressing the young people of our community,
this education ranges from sexual harassment to date/acquaintance
rape and other forms of dating violence.
An educational series is currently presented to all tenth
graders in Todd and Morrison county schools. Students are
made aware of the definitions of date/acquaintance rape as
well as the impact that this type of violence has on the victim
and those close to her or him, too. Prevention is a key part
of this series.
Students in eighth grade around the two counties are currently
being offered an educational series on healthy relationships.
This series covers relationships with peers and family members
as well as in dating situations.
Another large educational piece being offered is sexual
harassment education in the elementary schools. If a teacher
requests our services, our youth educators go into the classroom
and teach the students about proper behavior toward one another.
Our belief is that if education happens at a younger level,
we have taken a huge step to eliminate the cycle of violence.
