VOLUNTEER ADVOCATE TRAINING
As recent media attention has brought the issues of domestic
violence, child abuse, and sexual abuse to the forefront, we
have become aware that family violence affects people of all
races, gender, and economic levels. Many people often ask, "What
can I do to help stop this senseless tragedy?" Involvement in,
and awareness of, these issues is a start in your attempt "to
do your part" in stopping this kind of abuse.
Hands of Hope Resource Center conducts volunteer training for
advocates to assist victims/survivors of domestic violence,
child abuse, sexual assault, and general crime beginning each
year in September. Training consists of 56 classroom hours and
covers issues on the dynamics of domestic violence, sexual assault,
child abuse, sexual harassment, incest, racism, sexism, date/acquaintance
rape, medical issues, legal issues, and crisis response. Female
and Male Volunteer advocates are being sought for all areas
within Morrison and Todd Counties.
After completing training, advocates will:
- Serve as on-call volunteers on the free and confidential 24-hour crisis line.
- Provide support and understanding for victims/survivors
and their families (or other significant people) in dealing
with the assault and related concerns.
- Provide information on services, procedures, and resources available in the community and surrounding areas.
For further information or to register, please call Karla at Hands of Hope Resource
Center at 632-1657 or 1-800-296-1657.
